Federation of Somali Associations Netherlands and Miss Africa Netherlands organized a Zero Tolerance Day to Female Genital Mutilation. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is defined by the United Nations as “all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons”.
It is also known as female genital cutting and female circumcision. In the Netherlands, the Dutch Law makes it an offence to subject a child or woman to the practice. The aim of the day is to bring together different agencies and organisations involved in FGM to discuss the problems and develop practical solutions to eradicate this harmful practice. Be there!
