Florence Joyner made her Olympic debut in 1984, at the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. There, she won a silver medal for the 200-meter run. Black History Month Discussion: Are Urban Brands Still Relevant?

In the early to mid nineties urban brands were all the rage. Guys walked around in Ecko sweatshirts, Karl Kani and Rocawear. Girls rocked Baby Phat, Apple Bottoms, and Iceberg with confidence. I remember the Baby Phat handbag I was yearning to purchase and the Pastry runners collection in my closet. And don’t get me started on the Karl Kani jacket that I received as a gift that I would wear anywhere and everywhere. All these brands are still on the market, but are they still relevant? Princess Elizabeth Christobel Edith Bagaaya Akiiki of Toro is the Batebe of the Kingdom of Toro. She is a Ugandan lawyer, politician, diplomat, model and actress. Her large eyes and regal stature enraptured American audiences, who were seduced by her graceful gaze and royal lineage. Born in 1936, Elizabeth was the daughter of one of the kings of the four tribes who formerly ruled Uganda. She attended the most prestigious boarding schools and universities.
