Initiated and produced by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Maison Jean Paul Gaultier in Paris and the Kunsthal Rotterdam in The Netherlands, the exhibition brings to life the world of Gaultier. Topshop was turning a market stall owner’s sheepskin jacket into an oversize shearling coat, reworking a dustman’s overalls in chic navy duchesse satin, and turning faded flocked pub wallpaper into vintage-feel floral print knits and swishing circle skirts. Fashionshow: Jean Paul Gaultier Spring Couture 2013

French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier presented his Spring/Summer 2013 Haute-Couture collection in a fashion show for Paris Fashion Week. The collection is all about layering on and adding texture to an ensemble, including the flamenco style tiered patchwork skirt ensemble, which is teamed with a ruffle sleeved blouse. There are some daring, barely-there pieces, including his off-the-shoulder gossamer-thin black gown with a crosshatch and tulle skirt.

The Turkish-born Serkan Cura showed his Spring Couture collection at Paris Fashion week. The “Birds of Eden” collection is a variety of flamboyant shoulder pieces on top of skimpy corset dresses in see-through fabrics. Among the finale numbers was a creamy feather tutu worthy of a 21st-century production of “Swan Lake.”

We love LaQuan Smith! Inspired by his recent travels to the British Virgin Islands and Lagos, Nigeria, the 24-year-old designed a wardrobe for his spring 2013 collection. It included  cropped silhouettes, high waistlines, and Smith’s beloved hotpants. He also delivered a few beach-ready sheer, hooded windbreaker-type pieces, emboldended by black piping. Sharam Diniz is the first Portuguese and Angolan model to walk in the show. Sharam Diniz hasn’t always been a Victoria’s Secret model, but she’s always dreamed of becoming one. One of the 100 women who were fighting for less than a dozen spots to walk the runway, confidence and the perfect figure was needed for the work. Finding out she would be part of the show before the rehearsals on Tuesday, Diniz has been excited about her new job and picking up as much knowledge as possible for a perfect show.
